Although some laundry mishaps are unavoidable, we can all learn from our mistakes. We have all had things shrink, turn pink, come out dingy or even stink. There are ways to fix things.
Shrunken Clothes - While some shrunken clothes may as well be handed down to smaller people, some can be fixed. Some tee shirts will re-size themselves if washed again. Wash the shirt in cold water, place in the dryer for a minute, shake it out vigorously and hang to dry. Some will defy you and stay small but it is worth a try. Some sweaters can also be re-sized. Gently hand-wash the sweater, squeeze out water, place the sweater on a towel and roll the sweater up with the towel to remove more water. Unroll and gently reshape.

Pink Clothes - As pretty as the colour pink is, there is too much of a good thing. No one wants pink underwear, pink socks, pink shirts and pink pants. That is what you will get, however, if you do not sort carefully. If you do end up with a washer-full of pink clothes then try the following; if the clothes used to be white you can bleach the load. If there are patterns in the clothes, however, you will not want to bleach because you will also remove the patterns. For this, look for a colour remover, however, this might also remove other patterns so start small. If all else fails, you can tie-dye the clothes.
Dingy Clothes - If your white clothes are not actually white any more (they might be yellowish, grayish or in between) than it is time to take action. Bleach will not work here, it will only intensify said colour. Try the following to get your clothes brighter; soak your dingy clothes in a bucket of cold water with around 4 squirts of liquid dish soap. Rinse out the clothes and soak them in a bucket of warm water and 3 tablespoons of vinegar. Rinse the clothes until there are no suds or vinegar smell.
Smelly Clothes - If you have ever forgotten your clothes in the washer only to remember the next day (or several days afterwards) then you know what I am talking about. If it is just a matter of stinky clothes, then a second wash should do the trick. If mildew has formed, however, you will need to wash whites in regular bleach and colours in colour-safe bleach.
Many laundry disasters are fixable and even more are preventable. Read labels, know your machine, sort clothes, check pockets (shredded tissues, melted candy...) and always finish the loads you have started.
